Getting Started
Each player secretly receives a word. Most players get the same word (Civilians), one or more players get a similar but different word (Undercover), and one player may get no word at all (Mr. White). Players take turns giving one-word clues. After everyone speaks, the group votes to eliminate the suspected spy. Civilians win by eliminating all impostors. Impostors win by matching or outnumbering the Civilians.
WordSpy supports 3 to 20 players. For the best experience we recommend 5–10 players, but it works great in smaller groups too. All players share one device — no separate app installs needed.
Mr. White is the hardest role — they receive no word at all. They must listen carefully to everyone's clues and bluff convincingly without knowing anything. If Mr. White is voted out, they get one final chance to guess the Civilian word. A correct guess wins the game for the impostors.
WordSpy includes 11 themed packs with 600+ word pairs:
Mixed — a balanced assortment for any crowd
Food & Drink, Sports, Pop Culture, Movies & TV, Music
History, Science & Tech, Travel & Nature, Work & Office
After Dark — mature content, suitable for adults
You can also create unlimited custom word packs with your own word pairs.
App & Settings
Go to Settings → App Language and tap your preferred language. WordSpy supports English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Word packs are available in all five languages plus Japanese.
Tap Word Packs from the home screen, then tap the + button to create a new pack. Add as many word pairs as you like — each pair has a Civilian word and a related Undercover word. Custom packs are saved locally on your device.
Go to Settings → Gameplay and toggle Sound Effects, Background Music, or Haptic Feedback on or off individually.
Go to Settings → Privacy → Reset All Data. This clears your game history, settings, and custom packs from your device. This action cannot be undone.
Troubleshooting
Try force-quitting the app and reopening it. Make sure you're running the latest version — updates are available on the App Store. If the issue persists, please email us at kagrawal61@gmail.com with your device model, iOS version, and a description of what happened.
Game history is stored locally on your device. It may have been cleared if you reset app data, deleted and reinstalled the app, or restored your device without a backup. Unfortunately lost history cannot be recovered.
Make sure each player taps the screen themselves to reveal their word — the reveal is intentionally one player at a time to keep roles secret. If the screen is stuck or unresponsive, force-quit and reopen the app. Contact us if the issue continues.
